Welcome to Revolver at Møllergata 32! Revolver is a cocktail bar, a restaurant and a music venue. We have a basement where we host concerts and club nights, and here you’ll find music from contradictory genres. The common denominator for everything that goes on here is that this is where you saw it first. Come by our red temple of rock – all in one building!

WEDNESDAY:
MARIBEL (N)
With transcendental effect it weaves the listener into an ambiguous dreamland where beautiful pop melodies are wrapped in blankets of noise ecstasy and whining distortion. Bi-polar moods – from ecstasy, euphoria and mania to depression, melancholy and apathy – are united in the meeting between – and the fusing together of – harmony and dissonance. Close your eyes in blissful intoxication and dance the night away in a dark club. The debut album Aesthetics, which was released this spring, was greeted with compliments and great reviews – nothin’ but fives and sixes from all quarters.
MYSPACE

LIONHEART BROTHERS (N)
This band’s latest musical expedition wanders through a varied soundscape. From clever participation in Brian Wilson’s grandiose pop vision, through pulsating grooves, to the melodic flow we know from British alternative rock. The Lionheart Brothers stretch the limits of the pop/rock genre and explore sides to today’s gaudy and calculating music universe where few have journeyed before them. For the keen ear, there is much to discover here! The album Dizzy received rave reviews when it came out in January 2007, and the single “50 Souls and a Disco Bowl” from the album became a great radio hit all across Norway. They’ve convinced us all, both on album and as a live act, and after the success in Norway they’ve toured Sweden and England several times. The Lionheart Brothers are an energetic pop version of sister acts Serena Maneesh and 120 Days, and they’ll be out with a new album in 2009. Hopefully we’ll get a few samples of the material at Nighttime Øya.

THURSDAY:
MUNN TIL MUNN METODEN (N)
Munn til Munn Metoden are two young boys – Dennis, with a background from indie rock, and Kristian, with roots in hip hop – hailing from the Norwegian city of Fredrikstad. Together they’re one of the freshest and most exciting acts that have popped up in Norwegian music over the past year, and during their short life span so far, they’ve done remixes for the Norwegians bands Hiawata! and Safariari, as well as the Mexican act Electrica Miami and the Swedish act Brurning Thing, plus a handful of other artists from around the globe. But they’re much more than just skilled remixers; together they create wonderful and aestival electro that hovers somewhere between Daft Punk, Ratatat and Justice. These two guys will definitely get you dancing!
MYSPACE

DJ SCOTCH EGG (JP)
British labels Wrong Music and Load records bring us the freaky break core of DJ Scotch Egg. If you haven’t heard hyper music before, you simply have to come and see this. Here at Revolver we firmly believe that this will be the craziest and most out-there show during Nighttime Øya!
MYSPACE

FRIDAY:
THE LOW FREQUENCY IN STEREO (N)
The music of The Low Frequency in Stereo is based on pumping and hot organic drums, beats, groovy and organic bass, razor-sharp guitars, Fender Rhodes, Yamaha organ, moog and vocals. The band has one foot in Pompeii and one in outer space! They’ve been called one of Scandinavia’s most important instrumental acts. During the past few years they’ve incorporated vocals, and with great success. The Low Frequency in Stereo has performed all over the world, and has finally gotten a well-deserved breakthrough! Their latest album, The Last Temptation of The Low Frequency in Stereo, was called “the perfect fusing of lo-fi, punk and post rock” by most newspapers, and the band performed in i.a. Greece, England and in the US, at CMJ in New York. The album was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy, in the category Best Rock Album, in 2006, and now the band has been invited over to the US to record the follow-up!
“The Coolest Rulers of Scandinavia” – David Fricke, Senior Editor, Rolling Stone Magazine
“Psych-Garage Dronemeisters” – William Kirk, Pitchfork Media
“Great music and great singing. I’m a fan!” – Michael Stipe, REM
MYSPACE

THE OSCILLATION (UK)
A wonderful mix of pop tunes and long psychedelic phrasings in the spirit of 70s kraut. Playful tunes from the kingdom of Loop and Spiritualized, mixed with The Ruts trapped in an echo box.
MYSPACE

CLUB KOSMISCHE (N)
What? A kraut rock club in Oslo? Oh yes, there actually is one – and sweet jeez, it’s fun!

SATURDAY:
SIGH & EXPLODE (N)
The band was formed early 2007, and since then they’ve toured all over Norway, playing everything from the small, sweaty clubs to the biggest festivals. The band has two partners in the UK, Shellshock (label) and Pomona (press). The cooperation came about as a result of the band’s only performance ever outside Norway, at the music biz convention The Great Escape. The band has received several interesting offers from other foreign labels and press agencies, but will not sign to anything until the album is completely finished. The album was recorded in Harrys Gym Studio in Oslo with Bjarne Stensli, Ingrid Olava, 120 Days, De Lillos, ¥85, Apoptygma Berzerk and others) as technician and producer. Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh, Silver and others) is doing the mixing.

Line-up: GRUM (UK) / LADYHAWKE (NZ) / HEARTBREAK (AR/UK)

Stratos lies at the top of the old and venerable opera building right next to Youngstorget, boasting a functionalist interior and architecture. Over the past few years the place has become a favorite hangout for artists and journalists visiting the Øya Festival. This year our friends at Smuglesning.no will be hosting four days of club nights and concerts in the penthouse of Oslo city. Look out for unannounced guests behind the decks on both the 13th and 12th floor!
A limited number of tickets will be available through Billettservice.no from June 10. The rest will be sold at the door.

ONSDAG:
GRUM (UK)
Together with names like Russ Chimes and Louis La Roche, Grum belongs to a young generation of British DJs who look to France rather than their own scene, something which resulted in Grum being one of the first to really grasp the concept of remix competitions and blogs. Last year’s Woah competition not only made his song a future classic; it also made Grum a household name in blogs across the globe. Earlier this year, this young man made a strong contribution in the Best Remix competition with his version of Friendly Fires’ “Skeleton Boy”.
MYSPACE

THURSDAY:
LADYHAWKE (NZ)
Ladyhawke is one helluva lady. We can’t quite recall the last time there came any pop music out of New Zealand, but that doesn’t matter, because in Ladyhawke the entire world has found a new pop pet. While her sisters in the blogosphere (Lady Gaga, La Roux, Little Boots and so on) rely on either external producers or user-friendly technology, Ladyhawke has built a modern artist career on being a real musician and old-school artist. The lady is a songwriter, singer and one heck of a multi-instrumentalist—and she makes exceptionally great pop music. All too few saw her at the Hove Festival last year. Here’s your second chance.
MYSPACE

SATURDAY:
HEARTBREAK (AR/UK)
Vice Magazine has described Heartbreak as “how the 80s would sound today if the 90s hadn’t got in the way”, which is a quite suitable description of this London-based electro duo. Heartbreak takes all the best elements of the 80s and amplifies and refines them with modern technology. Heartbrak is theatrical, and also melodic as hell – or as a broken heart, if you will. Over the last year, Heartbreak has toured with The Presets, the Australians who delivered one helluva performance at Smuglesning’s Nighttime Øya evening at Parkteateret last year.

WEDNESDAY – Konsertforeninga presents:
K-X-P (FI / Smalltown Supersound)
When the relatively unkown Finnish band K-X-P played at Mono this spring, they turned the whole place upside down, and even the most hard-boiled rockers appeared to be shaking their booty a bit. The fact that three completely stationary Fins on synth, bass and drums should groove this insanely, goes against every known law of nature. K-X-P are signedto Smalltown Supersound. The band leader, Timo Kaukolampi, is known from bands like Larry and the Left-handed, Circle and Op:l Bastards. He has also produced Annie and worked with 120 Days.
Clash Magazine had the following to say about K-X-P after the Norwegian music convention by:Larm: "Rough, binary and depraved. K-X-P make accelerated kraut rock which at points swerves into live three-piece techno. Disrupted soundscapes give way to layered synths given wings by urgent live drums. Yet with zero movement on stage this Finnish band are a rough prospect and have elements to hone. Occasional shouted vocals are reminiscent of DFA whilst the bass groove is all early Jimi Tenor, making it a must for a small club opposed to this echoing auditorium. Ones to watch.”

HUDSON MOHAWKE (UK / Warp)
Hudson Mohawke from Scotland is, together with Flying Lotus, referred to as one of the most exciting names within instrumental hip hop these days. He is a top priority with Warp Records and will be out with a new album this year.

THURSDAY:
HOT HOT! – DJ MIKAEL TELLÉ AND DJ ASEL (N)
We’ll get a grand visit from Bergen this Thursday. The club concept Hot Hot! has been at it a few years now, and it’s still all about danceable punk funk, electro and disco. Behind the concept are the two gentlemen Mikael Tellé and Asle Brodin, a.k.a. DJ Asel. As most people might have gotten wind of, the legendary Tellé Records is back, only now as House of Tellé. More vital than ever, with great releases from i.a. familjen, The Rubies and Fjorden Baby! over the past few years. It’s gonna be Hot Hot! on the dance floor, people!

MASSELYS (N)
After a prolonged band meeting last year at the watering place Lompa, the legendary kraut/post rock act Salvatore was dissolved. However, from the ashes rose Masselys, which consists of Bjarne Larsen, Jon Birger “Jomba” Wormdahl and Kjell Olav Jørgensen. They’ve been joined by the enigmatic singer Pea, who comes across as the modern Oslo version of the legendary Can singer Damo Suzuki. The songs are long and jam-sounding, and Pea twinkles like a star with his outgoing and improvised punk funk vocals. For fans of Can, Kraut, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture and so on.

FRIDAY – dubstep night:
BENGA & SKREAM DJ SET (UK / Tempa)
We’ll get a grand visit from two of the biggest names in dubstep, Benga and Skream! These two gentlemen will be coming straight from the Magnetic Man-gig in the Medieval Park, where they’re performing with their buddy Artwork. The boys will be doing a “back to back” DJ set that’ll make the paint peel of the walls at The Villa. We just hope the foundation can withstand it …! Expect the newest stuff from the genre, songs that you can buy in stores in about a year’s time. Skream and Benga can boast being two of the world’s most influential dubstep producers, and have been a part of the scene since its humble beginnings in South-London back around 2000. The genre has grown into a global phenomenon, and today you can dance to dubstep at clubs all around the world. Dubstep can be described as a slow kind of drum & bass with blue and dark undertones. The genre sprang from British breakbeat culture and followed in the wake of hardcore, jungle, drum & bass and two-step.
MYSPACE

SPIRO & KNARK KENT (N / Shit City Tekk)
The Villa’s own Shit City Tekk boys Knark Kent and Spiro will warm up the crowd. These guys were one of the first to bring dubstep to Oslo, and they also have their own weekly web radio program, called ‘Looking for the Perfect Beat’, on www.reload-radio.com.

SATURDAY – Smalltown Supersound presents:
IDJUT BOYS (UK / Noid)
Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell, a.k.a. the Idjut Boys, seem to have taken a real liking to Norway. Not only have they been visiting Norwegian clubs for many years, they’ve also cooperated, remixed and released Norwegian artists by the bucket load. They will always be associated with the Norwegian Nu Disco sound, and have been to the genre what Prins Thomas is to the Norwegian scene. In May they released the album Desire Lines under the name Meanderthals on the Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound, a cooperation project with the Norwegian disco legend Rune Lindbæk. In addition to running the three record labels U-Star, Disfunktion and Noid, the idjuts have released records on a wide variety of dance labels, such as Glasgow Underground, Nuphonic, Tirk and Bear Funk.

BJØRN TORSKE (N)
Bjørn Torske entered the international electronica scene back in 1991 with the project Alegeria on an obscure Belgian record label. Since then he has released numerous records and remixes, and has moved from techno via disco to his current sound. Torske is a true electronic music pioneer, and has over the past few years been an important influence and driving force for the Norwegian Nu Disco scene.

SKWEEE!!!! DØDPOP ARTISTS: MELKEVEIEN (N) / SPRUTBASS (N) / BEATBULLY (N)
We never thought we’d live to see something as amazing as the rise of an entire genre of electronic music stemming from Scandinavia. Skweee is its name, and slowly but steadily it has grown forth on the electro scenes of Helsinki and Stockholm. With roots in the record labels Flogsta Danshall (SE) and Harmönia (FI), boasting acts like Daniel Savo, Boyz of Caligula and Mesak, Skwee has charmed the entire world of electronic music with its playfulness. It can be described as a light-footed and slower variant of dubstep, with naïve 8-bit melody lines and a healthy dose of p-funk. Amazingly wicked and incredibly funky. A third Skwee label is located in the Norwegian town of Hamar, and it’s called Dødpop. The producers Sagtann, Melkeveien og Beatbully quickly gained attention when they entered the scene, and are now a part of the Scandinavian Skwee family.
