Dirty Pretty Things 2008

Many might still remember the Pete Doherty and Babyshambles Øya gig back in ’05. Doherty’s former colleagues from The Libertines are now ready for the Medieval Park. Carl Barât started Dirty Pretty Things in 2005 together with Libertines drummer Gary Powell, Dudz Hammond from Cooper Temple Clause, and Anthony Rossomando, who also stopped by The Libertines for a short while. The Dirty Pretty Things debut, ‘Waterloo to Anywhere’, was a giant success in the UK. Both the album and the first single, “Bang, Bang, You’re Dead”, made the top five on the charts. The band has traveled further on into the musical territory that The Libertines found themselves in. Their music is rooted in British punk rock and modern indie. In addition, Dirty Pretty Things have a bit of the same air of restlessness as their predecessor, though without having made the headlines to the same extent as their former buddy Doherty.

Their second album, ’Romance at Short Notice’, will be in stores on July 7. Friday Aug. 8 they’ll be on stage in the Medieval Park. In addition to Øya, they will also be one of the main attractions at the Carling festivals in Reading and Leeds, as well as Wireless in Hyde Park. This tells us a little bit about their status in their home country, where the song “Tired of England” has been getting a lot of airtime lately. This fever might very well rub off on us Norwegians throughout the summer.

In a review of a recent DPT gig in London, the Norwegian web mag Musikknyheter.no gave them a 10 out of 10 and wrote that: “(…) Dirty Pretty Things are better than ever.” We expect the same kind of enthusiasm when the quartet enters the stage at Øya.
